At LogiCarbon Solutions, we believe that the future of carbon logistics depends on more than technology alone—it depends on trust, transparency, and strong foundations. That’s why we’re proud to announce our membership in the Dutch Standardization Institute’s (NEN) working group on Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS).
This working group feeds directly into the European committee CEN/TC 474, which is tasked with developing standards that will guide the safe and efficient handling of CO₂ across the continent. For us, this isn’t just about being part of the conversation—it’s about helping to shape the rules of the game in one of the fastest-emerging areas of climate action.
Why standardization matters for CO₂ shipping
Maritime transport is set to play a key role in moving captured CO₂ to storage sites and industrial users. But without clear standards, questions quickly arise: What quality must the CO₂ stream have to be safely transported? How should cargo be handled? What monitoring systems are needed to ensure compliance and transparency?
By working within the NEN framework, we are helping to establish harmonized rules that address these challenges head-on. These standards won’t just sit on paper—they will form the backbone of European legislation, guiding everything from how CO₂ is shipped across seas to how it is monitored and accounted for once it arrives.
From legislation to real-world operations
One of the most important aspects of European standardization is its link to law. When CEN develops an official standard, EU member states are required to adopt it. That means the work happening now in the CCUS working group will directly influence how companies, regulators, and ports operate in the near future.
For shipping operators and cargo handlers, this provides clarity and certainty. For regulators, it offers a common language for compliance. And for innovators like us, it creates the framework to bring new solutions—such as digital monitoring and emissions mapping—into practice with confidence.
What LogiCarbon brings to the table
As a company focused on emissions mapping and carbon logistics, LogiCarbon is in a unique position to contribute practical, real-world insights. We understand the operational challenges of CO₂ transport—variability in stream quality, the complexities of maritime logistics, and the importance of robust monitoring systems.
By sharing this expertise, we help ensure that emerging standards are not only technically sound but also workable in practice. Our goal is to bridge the gap between policy and operations, making sure the standards developed today can be implemented tomorrow without slowing down climate progress.
Looking ahead
Joining the NEN working group is more than just an industry milestone for LogiCarbon Solutions—it’s a commitment to shaping the safe, efficient, and transparent movement of CO₂ across Europe. As standards evolve, we will continue to play an active role in ensuring they support both regulatory compliance and operational innovation.
Because when it comes to building a future where carbon is captured, shipped, and stored responsibly, the details matter. And we’re proud to be helping define them.
